We have been breeding "Real" German Shepherd Dogs
for over 24 years now, since 1986. In our long search for a
German Shepherd Dog puppy back in the early eighties, we became very
frustrated with what was available to us. We went to the AKC shows
like the books told us and we were disgusted with the flagrant
politics and the attitudes we encountered there back then. We also didn't like the
extreme angulation and skittish temperaments we observed at that
time. Our search for a
reputable import bloodline breeder didn't go much better, we found
out later that we were looking in all the wrong places. We finally found an honest
breeder located in Louisiana.
Mr. Eric Nelis bred German dogs and we bought our first
"Real" German Shepherd puppy, sight unseen over the phone (no
Internet in those days).
"TJ" was a great dog, easy to train, rock solid nerve,
fiercely protective and loyal, a constant companion to our two
young children and our many nieces and
nephews.
We have learned a great deal over the years. We have made friends with
dozens of fine, reputable breeders and dog people. If we don't
have exactly what you're looking for, chances are we know someone
who can help you.
Today we strive to be the type of breeder we were
searching for when we wanted our first "Real" German Shepherd
Dog. We will always
take the time to listen to your needs and we will be honest and
open about our ability to meet your needs and expectations.
We breed for temperament, first and
foremost! Color is secondary. If
your only concern with your GSD puppy is it's color and not the
personality, character and temperament, we politely suggest you look
else where.
We agree with the father of the
breed.....
"The breeding of Shepherd Dogs means the
breeding of working dogs and this must always be our aim or we shall
cease to produce Shepherd Dogs"
Max
von Stephanitz

"Horand embodied for the
enthusiasts of that time the fulfillment of their fondest dreams. He
was big for that period, between 24" and 24 1/2", even for the
present day a good medium size, with powerful frame, beautiful
lines, and a nobly formed head. Clean and sinewy in build, the
entire dog was one live wire. His character was on a par with his
exterior qualities; marvelous in his obedient fidelity to his
master, and above all else, the straightforward nature of a
gentleman with a boundless zest for living. Although untrained in
puppy hood, nevertheless obedient to the slightest nod when at this
master's side; but when left to himself, the maddest rascal, the
wildest ruffian and incorrigible provoker of strife. Never idle,
always on the go; well disposed to harmless people, but no cringer,
mad about children and always in love. What could not have been the
accomplishments of such a dog if we, at that time, had only had
military or police service training? His faults were the failings of
his upbringing, never of his stock. He suffered from a superfluity
of unemployed energy, for he was in Heaven when someone was occupied
with him and was then the most tractable of dog."
